Nick from Drifter is a merman. He’s also a well loved brewer from Cape Town. When he’s not making delicious beer, he’s diving 30m below sea level in scary shipwrecks.
We chat about the launch their Ocean Aged Beer! Yup, that’s right, these beers have been ageing on the ocean floor in Cape Town for one year. This will be the first in a series of underwater beers brewed by Nick, who says “the concept originated while scuba diving an old shipwreck in Smitswinkel Bay off of Cape Point. Due to the darkness and cold temperatures, the Cape peninsula waters are ideal for this unique fermentation process.”
Nick has also been doing some travelling around the world. We’ll find out more about their recent “Beer Exchange” with Lakefront Brewing in Wisconsin, where a batch of East Side Dark Lager was brewed at the Drifter brewery.
